Hay mucho qué hacer en materia de adicciones

La estrategia federal de combate a las adicciones presentada la semana pasada por el vocero de la presidencia, Jesús Ramírez, visto con una mirada optimista, es un buen inicio para un tema tan complejo en nuestro país y que sin duda es un creciente asunto de salud pública, independientemente de que lo relacionado a la venta y distribución de estupefacientes tenga que ver con las políticas de seguridad nacional.
Separar lo que es el tema de la venta y distribución, en otras palabras, el narcotráfico, que será atendido según la presidencia de la República por el programa nacional de seguridad, y aceptar que en México el aspecto del consumo es una realidad y que por tanto debemos darle un enfoque de prevención, atención y rehabilitación, más allá de las críticas que haya recibido el lanzamiento de la campaña nacional y de los asuntos de la estructura política y burocrática del gobierno, son un buen aliciente para quienes profesionalmente nos dedicamos justo a tan relevantes tareas de salud.
Vista desde un enfoque simplista, la campaña anunciada, que incluye los pilares de educación, prevención, atención y rehabilitación, con mensajes de personalidades y que esperamos que no quede en una estrategia publicitaria o de comunicación social, sino que cumpla con el rigor metodológico para poder lograr sus objetivos, es un buen inicio para tomar cartas en este asunto tan real y tan vivo en el país.
Si como país salimos de la negación de que el consumo de drogas legales e ilegales está creciendo, así como la edad de inicio de uso es cada vez menor, si aceptamos donde estamos parados y le damos un sentido útil a las estadísticas de las encuestas nacionales de adicciones, entonces,y sólo entonces, estaremos en posibilidad de enfrentar nuestra realidad con las herramientas profesionales y científicas que nos lleven a darle la relevancia que el tema merece y pasar del discurso de que “todo está bien”, al de “pongamos manos a la obra”.
Hay mucho por hacer y esto no debe ser solamente un esfuerzo de gobierno, sino de todos quienes estamos involucrados en el sector, profesionales de las adicciones, grupos de ayuda mutua, instituciones privadas y la sociedad civil en general tenemos mucho trabajo que hacer para prevenir que el uso, abuso y dependencia de sustancias tóxicas siga creciendo, así como atender y tratar a quienes desafortunadamente ya han caído en la enfermedad de la adicción.
