Frecuentemente, tanto en la consulta de adicciones como en charlas con amigos, comunicadores y no comunicadores, surge el tema de la violencia y la delincuencia que azota nuestras ciudades y que aún nos sigue sorprendiendo, como si no quisiéramos ver la realidad que nos rodea y en la que llevamos muchos años viviendo como si no pasara nada.

Como en el futbol, todos creen ser expertos y ponen en la mesa diversas hipótesis, algunas replicando las agendas de algunos medios de comunicación, otras “de oídas” de lo que alguien más les dijo y algunas inclusive basadas en las series televisivas relacionadas con el narco y todo lo que ello tiene alrededor suyo.

“¿En dónde quedaron los valores?” “¿Cómo es posible que la sociedad haya cambiado tanto en sólo unos años?” “¡Antes no era así, bueno si era, pero incluso las mafias se ponían de acuerdo para que hubiera paz!” “Es que antes los gobernantes sabían negociar con los grupos criminales” “¿En qué momento se nos infiltró el narco”? Y así, podemos citar una larga lista de frases y respuestas en las que seguimos mostrando nuestra capacidad de asombro y buscamos responsabilizar a las autoridades locales o federales, sin si quiera tener por asomo que quizás cada uno de nosotros podamos tener alguna responsabilidad de lo que pasa en nuestro entorno.

A muchas personas no les gusta a veces mi estilo confrontativo, en lo que al consumo de alcohol y drogas respecta, porque quizás querrían seguir negando la realidad y en la comodidad de sus respectivos lugares, echarles la culpa a otros.

Y es que muchas veces les digo que no hay de qué extrañarnos, que nuestras ciudades dejaron de ser solamente de paso para que las sustancias viajen a los Estados Unidos y que muy cerca de nosotros hace varias décadas ya, en nuestras colonias se asentaron lugares de consumo de drogas porque la demanda ha ido creciendo exponencialmente.

Entonces les invito a que, en lugar de cuestionar a las autoridades, nos preguntemos como padres donde estábamos allá por los 90´s cuando comenzó a crecer el consumo local que por muchos años negamos, pensando que nuestros hijos serían incapaces de andar en malos pasos.

Era muy cómo usar el discurso de que éramos un país de paso y no una plaza de consumo, lo cual por supuesto es historia y el mercado ha crecido de una manera en la que es imposible no conocer a alguien cercano que tenga problemas de consumo.

Y para los incrédulos que niegan que esto comenzó a crecer en los 90´s y que aún piensan que en la actualidad el consumo de drogas se da en ciertos nichos de la sociedad, déjenme compartirles una anécdota personal de mi época estudiantil, allá por finales de los 80´s.

Quizás el decirlo provoque que algunas personas o instituciones nieguen que en sus casas o en sus comunidades esto no sucede, si así lo quieren, está bien, no pasa nada, cada uno puede vivir con sus mecanismos de defensa.

Allá por 1989, a un año de titularme, habiendo sido presidente del Consejo Estudiantil de la FEITESM en el Tec de Monterrey, me llamó un amigo y excolaborador de la Dirección de Asuntos Estudiantiles diciéndome que estaban haciendo un estudio anónimo para conocer los hábitos relacionados con el consumo de drogas en la población de estudiantes.

Me limité a decirle que por supuesto había pero que sería difícil que alguien quisiera colaborar debido a que podrían considerarlo como una traición a quienes por algún motivo estaban en consumo.

A más de 33 de ese encuentro, puedo comentar que en aquel entonces había un gran consumo de alcohol y tabaco, así como marihuana y cocaína en pequeños grupos, pero muy identificados.

De entonces a la fecha la producción de nuevas drogas, incluyendo las sintéticas, el discurso a favor del consumo de la marihuana desde hace una década al menos, ha hecho que según las encuestas nacionales de adicciones, con el tiempo han indo aumentando el número de consumidores y de sustancias disponibles.

Como en cualquier mercado, es una cuestión de economías, a mayor demanda habrá mayor oferta y más competencia entre los distribuidores que, en estos casos, pelean literalmente con armas sus plazas y provocan mucha de la violencia que vemos cotidianamente en las noticias.

Si hablamos de prostitución femenil y varonil, encontraremos más temas de esos que no nos gusta abordar porque es más fácil decir que existen bandas de secuestradores y de trata de personas, lo cual en efecto existen en ciertas poblaciones del país, pero no es lo común en el mundo del sexo servicio que actualmente se ofrece por internet, por redes sociales, por aplicaciones de mensajería móvil y entre amistades selectas, practicándolo, como ellas y ellos mismos se anuncian, como independientes.

En esta ocasión no abundaremos en este tema, pero es un hecho que el grado de descomposición social es un asunto de todos y no sólo de los gobiernos, igual que otros muchos problemas más que pudiéramos enumerar y de los que nadie habla en los medios o en las redes sociales.

Mientras siga habiendo consumo de piratería y auto partes robadas para quienes saben dónde encontrarlas, mientras siga habiendo oferta y demanda de sexo servicio y, mientras sigamos siendo permisivos en el consumo de alcohol y drogas, me parece que se nos cae el discurso de que las autoridades no están protegiéndonos y no hacen su trabajo.

Actuemos en la esfera de responsabilidad que nos toca a cada uno y dejemos los discursos de buscar culpables, quizás de esa forma podamos restablecernos como sociedad.

Hagamos prevención, hablemos de las cosas como son, hagámonos responsables de lo que nos toca y vayamos transformando paulatinamente nuestro entorno, comenzando por nuestros propios hogares.
