El fin de semana comencé a ver una serie argentina en YouTube llamada “Seres Libres”, cuyo tema central son las adicciones y algunas conductas obsesivo-compulsivas. Más allá del programa y su contenido, lo que me sedujo fue su título. Me resulta muy atractivo si consideramos que las dependencias son esclavitud, el antagonista de la libertad.
En sus definiciones etimológicas, adicción viene del latín addictus. Ese era el nombre que recibía el deudor insolvente, quien se otorgaba como esclavo de su acreedor, mediante orden judicial en el derecho romano arcaico.
Las drogas, las conductas adictivas como los videojuegos o las apuestas, cuando desarrollan la enfermedad llamada adicción, esclavizan la voluntad de quienes la padecen.
Perder la libertad de elegir entre consumir o detenerse, sentir la necesidad neuronal y física de hacerlo, así como vivir en la ingobernabilidad con todas sus consecuencias, suele convertirse en un verdadero infierno.
Quienes han atravesado el averno y las tinieblas de la adicción, en esa esclavitud hacia lo que de alguna forma es antinatural, pueden perder la esperanza y, llegar a morir.
La descripción anterior parecería drástica o amarillista. Las estadísticas la avalan. El inicio de consumo de drogas, alcohol o tabaco en nuestro país en promedio es a los 12 años. ¿Qué podemos hacer los padres de familia con esa información? Prevención y fortalecimiento de los factores de protección, es la respuesta. Además, por supuesto, de revisar si somos los mejores para predicar con el ejemplo o también padecemos de alguna adicción que nosotros mismos debamos tratar.
A veces los adultos somos los primeros en negar el problema y con ello agravamos la situación. ¡Hablemos con claridad y de frente! Aceptemos la realidad y pongamos manos a la obra.
La buena noticia es qué hay formas de salir del infierno de las sombras y aspirar a la luz de la alegría de vivir. En los dos libros que he tenido oportunidad de publicar (“La Alegría de Vivir: un viaje de las tinieblas a la luz”, 2018, y “Rendirse para triunfar: la alegría de vivir”, 2022), planteo las rutas para lograrlo.
Luchar contra los demonios propios, admitir la enfermedad y pedir ayuda. Recuperar la fe perdida, perseverar en el intento y enfocarse en una nueva forma de vida. Estas son algunas de las herramientas para volver al estatus de seres libres. Igual que el programa argentino antes mencionado.
