Este pasado lunes se conmemoró el Día Mundial de la Salud Mental y me llenó de alegría observar que en todos los niveles de gobierno y en diferentes instancias sociales, este tema ha dejado de tener tantos estigmas y es uno del cual no sólo podemos y debemos hablar de frente y con claridad, sino que cada vez está más arraigado en la población, que ya le da la misma importancia que a la salud física.
Apenas hace algunos años hablar de la salud mental era un mito, algo incluso de lo cual pudiera sentirse vergüenza o de lo que se mencionaba en voz baja por miedo al “que dirán” si se descubre que en la familia existe un integrante con algún tratamiento psiquiátrico o que tuviera que estar acudiendo a que algún profesional le pusiera en orden sus ideas o sus emociones.
Y es que la ignorancia y la desinformación, además de los prejuicios sociales en el pasado reciente, solían magnificar cualquier tipo de trastorno mental, haciéndolo equiparable a alguien que tuviera que estar en una casa de salud mental o, dicho coloquialmente, en el manicomio, lo cual evidentemente sonaba despectivo.
Hoy, afortunadamente, la labor de todos los que estamos de una u otra forma en el campo de la salud mental, independientemente del que sea, es mucho más reconocida y cada vez más aceptada como algo tan necesario como cualquier otra área de la salud.
Incluso datos estudiados durante los largos periodos de aislamiento por Covid19, arrojaron números muy interesantes de cómo una enfermedad física y sus consecuencias en el ambiente, causó también detonadores que afectaron la salud mental de muchas personas, al grado que ahora la atención para recuperar la condición psiquiátrica, psicológica, emocional o de alguna conducta distorsionada, es prioritaria en la agenda pública.
Incluso me da mucho gusto saber que ahora, desde tempranas edades, hay interés en el tema. El pasado lunes, justo el Día Mundial de la Salud Mental, tuve la oportunidad de comentar con un grupo de quinto de primaria, con apenas 11 años de edad, temas como la ansiedad, la depresión y una vista muy rápida a lo que son las adicciones, comentando, en su lenguaje, mi más reciente libro, “Rendirse para Triunfar”.
Mi sorpresa fue que, cuando yo suponía que sería un monólogo ante un auditorio cautivo, al menos cuatro alumnas fueron muy participativas con gran puntualidad al comentar sus temas sobre cómo vivieron la pandemia, lo que viven en casa y la importancia de poder expresar sus emociones.
Una de ellas se llevó la mañana, en el stand del municipio de Monterrey en la FILM 2022, cuando tomó el micrófono y dijo: “a veces el final es el principio de algo nuevo”, ante lo cual fui el primero en aplaudirle y por supuesto, regalarle un ejemplar de mi libro.
Evidentemente falta mucho por hacer en todo el país, aunque cada vez más nos damos cuenta de que tanto en municipios como en estados como Puebla y Tlaxcala, estos temas son cada vez de mayor interés.
