Cambiar, sí se puede

Una de las preguntas que con frecuencia nos hacen en el consultorio o en las clínicas de adicciones es la probabilidad de éxito del tratamiento, muchas veces quizás comprensible porque la familia ha intentado de todo y lucen ya sin esperanza.

Mientras muchos familiares son escépticos y por ello preguntan, otros al contrario suponen que podemos garantizar la sobriedad como si fuera un tema exclusivo de quienes atendemos el caso.

Me gusta explicarles que es difícil hablar de estadísticas y que mientras algunos centros o grupos ofrecen el 70 por ciento de probabilidades de éxito, nosotros preferimos ser cautos y hablar con prudencia de un 50 por una sencilla razón: quiere o no quiere recuperarse, esa es la cuestión y depende del individuo solamente. 

Evidentemente el equipo terapéutico, el programa que se siga, el Poder Superior y todos los factores involucrados juegan un papel importante, pero es solo el paciente quien tiene la opción en una moneda de dos caras: es si o es no. 

Algunos se decepcionan de eso y terminan diciendo que ya intentaron todo y no será posible , como si hubiera alguien que diera una garantía de un trabajo estrictamente personal. 

Para estas alturas suelo ya aclarar mi postura. Por supuesto que creo que se puede cambiar y creo en las segundas y terceras oportunidades, si no, no me dedicaría a esto, así que aquí no aplica la frase popular de que chango viejo no aprende maroma nueva. 

Cambiar, si se puede, si tú lo quieres y si sigues las indicaciones de tu grupo de apoyo. 

Evidentemente siempre es más fácil mientras más herramientas se tengan a la mano, por ello recomiendo equipos multidisciplinarios o de interconsulta para atender cada caso. Un médico especialista en trastornos mentales, un terapeuta especialista en adicciones, grupo de apoyo terapéutico, programa de 12 pasos, padrino, guía espiritual, familia y por supuesto el Poder Superior. En caso de que se elija algún otro método que no sean los 12 pasos que haya un modelo terapéutico claro. 

Con todo eso, ahora el cambio depende del paciente. Se puede, lo puedo constatar, he visto verdaderos milagros en la recuperación y está al alcance de quien lo desea de verdad.
